Sorbitan Monopalmitate

Sorbitan monopalmitate, also known as sorbitan palmitate, is synthesized by the esterification of sorbitan with palmitic acid. It has a molecular formula of C₂₂H₄₂O₆. At room temperature, it is a light yellow granular solid. Monopalmitate is a W/O emulsifier that has an HLB value of 6.7. Sorbitan monopalmitate can also act as a stabilizer, thickener for food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic formulations; and as a lubricant, softener, finishing agent for the textile industry. Also, sorbitan monopalmitate is used as a dispersant for printing ink.
